Eric Holder Statement on Supreme Court Ruling in Virginia Racial Gerrymandering Case

Washington, D.C. -- Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States, released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court ruling in Virginia House of Delegates v. Bethune-Hill:

“Today’s ruling from the Supreme Court is an important victory for African Americans in Virginia who have been forced since 2011 to vote in racially gerrymandered districts that unfairly diluted their voting power. With a new, fair map in place, all Virginians will now - finally - have the opportunity this fall to elect a House of Delegates that actually represents the will of the people.”

The National Redistricting Foundation, the 501(c)(3) affiliate of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, is supporting the voters in this case.  The case was argued before the Supreme Court by Marc Elias.
