Bullman v. Ardoin

3.31.2022
  • Louisiana
  • Closed

In 2022, the NRF supported a group of Louisiana voters in challenging the state’s congressional redistricting plan as unconstitutionally malapportioned in violation of the one person, one vote requirement under the federal Constitution. The litigation was filed in anticipation that a political impasse between the Governor and state legislature would preclude their ability to enact a new plan in time for the 2022 elections. While the plaintiffs sought, among other things, a judicial declaration that the current congressional plan was unconstitutional and an order setting a schedule for the state to adopt and implement a new plan or for the court to do so if the state failed to, the legislator overrode the Governor’s veto of its redistricting plan. Ultimately, the plaintiffs voluntarily dismissed its case.
