NRF Statement on Governor DeSantis’ Veto of Gerrymandered Congressional Map

Washington, D.C. – Today, in response to Governor DeSantis’ veto of the Florida Legislature’s proposed gerrymandered congressional map, Marina Jenkins, Director of Policy and Litigation at the National Redistricting Foundation, released the following statement:

“Governor DeSantis’ veto today continues the legislative deadlock that has plagued the severely flawed redistricting process in Florida. The Republican-led legislature passed an unfair map that is not representative of voters across the state, and Governor DeSantis has vetoed it solely because it does not meet his bizarre gerrymandering standards. This political process is at an impasse and the court must proceed to produce a map in a timely manner for the 2022 election cycle that accurately reflects the will of the people, keeps communities of interest together, and protects the voting power of communities of color.”
