NRF-Supported Plaintiffs Ask SCOTUS to Block 8th Circuit Decision Reinstating Missouri’s Mid-Decade Gerrymander

Washington, D.C. – The National Redistricting Foundation (NRF) is supporting People Not Politicians (PNP) in its application for an emergency stay asking the U.S. Supreme Court to block an 8th Circuit Court order reinstating Missouri’s mid-decade congressional gerrymander while voting is already underway in the 2026 midterm elections. The 8th Circuit’s decision directly contradicts a previous U.S. Supreme Court ruling ordering the state of Missouri to use its 2022-enacted map in the 2026 elections. The NRF is directing litigation on behalf of and providing financial support to People Not Politicians in this appeal.

“The Eighth Circuit cannot nullify the U.S. Supreme Court’s stay with a new order of its own, and it lacks the authority to review the Missouri Supreme Court’s decision that the pending ballot measure suspends the state’s mid-decade gerrymander,” said Marina Jenkins, Executive Director of the NRF. “The U.S. Supreme Court has already denied attempts to block the Missouri Supreme Court’s decision, not once, but twice, and it should also deny this ideological attempt by the Eighth Circuit to circumvent its order.”
