National Council of Jewish Women v. Landry
Case Summary
The National Redistricting Foundation (NRF) supported individual voter-plaintiffs and a community-based organization, the Greater New Orleans Chapter of the National Council for Jewish Women, in a legal challenge to Louisiana Governor Landry’s unprecedented unilateral attempt to cancel the state’s 2026 congressional primary election. Plaintiffs alleged that under Louisiana law, the Governor lacked the authority to cancel the election. They filed an emergency petition in state district court to immediately restrain the Governor from enforcing the unlawful proclamation and to require the state to conduct the ongoing elections on schedule as specified in Louisiana law. Unfortunately, the court denied the voters’ request. The NRF will continue to fight against the extraordinary efforts by some elected officials to upend an ongoing election and restrict voting rights.
